Bulb Flowers

Image
All Bulb flowers; like gladiolus, lilies, tulips, daffodils, etc.; can’t be cut or get broken or they won’t come back.  These flowers send all that they have, nutrients and energy, into growing flowers. So, if you cut them or they break off, the flowers take everything with them. Leaving nothing for the bulbs. In order for them to get it back, the flowers have to die while still connected to the bulb, which sends everything back into the bulb so they can grow flowers for many years. We wait until the flowers have turned brown, hard, and are easy to pull out.

Spring Nails

Image
My last  Spring Nails  almost lasted a whole month! Yay!! Here are my new ones. I just did a coral color with my ring finger being blue. I painted two black flowers on my thumb and ring finger with this Nail Tool . Then painted a matte top coat on my pointer, middle, and pinky, with the regular glossy coat on my thumb and ring finger. I like to have the top coat glossy on my fingers that have a design. I’m not sure why… other than it changes the look of the polish and I like the designs the way I paint them. I guess I’ll have to try a matte coat on my fingers with a design.

Honeycomb Waffle Iron

Image
As you may know my name in Greek means Honey Bee (Melissa in Greek: μέλισσα). So when Dash made a  Honeycomb Mini Waffle Maker  I just had to have it. Lol! We usually use  Kodiak Mixes  for pancakes and waffles because they have a lot of protein in them. Sometimes I will add 1/2 a cup of my  Sourdough Starter  to the mix. It makes them so moist and fluffy! I really enjoy these mini waffle makers, obviously since we have several of them. Lol!

Ducks In Our Pond

Image
Today when I went out front I found we had some cute visitors. Two cute ducks, a male and female! They hung out for awhile and even napped for a long time in and around our pond.  I’m not sure where they were living, but it was so fun to have them visit with us!

Graduation Announcement

I edited my favorite photos from the photos that I took of Xander ( Xander’s Senior Photos ) when we were in St. George, for his announcements. I lightened them, adjusted the color, etc. and I think they look better. Here they are, and his announcement.

Turkey Vultures

Image
In our neighborhood we have some houses that have huge properties.  In one of them they have turkey vultures.  In the spring we get to watch them circle the sky.  It's so fun to watch. Here are some facts about these amazing birds: Turkey Vultures They are the most widespread vultures in North America They are unique among vultures because they find carrion (decaying flesh of animals) by smell as well as by sight. They defend themselves by vomiting strong stomach acids. They can travel up to 200 miles in one day. They are related to storks, not to any birds of prey. They poop on their own legs and feet to keep them cool. Their wingspan is 63-72 inches. They have the largest olfactory (smelling) system of all birds. They are partial migrants. What this means is the ones that live in the Northern part of North America will migrate south.  The ones who live in the Southern part of North America don't migrate.  And actually the ones in the North leap frog ove...

Wedding Dress Shopping - Part 1

Image
Yesterday Brichette, Lydia, and I went wedding dress shopping.  Colleen, Sam's sister and Sam's sister-in-law went with us. We went to David's Bridal and looked at a lot of dresses, but there wasn't really any that Brichette liked.  There was one that she liked more than the other's, but it was over $1,000 and we were trying to keep it under $1,000.  I can't believe how much dress are now days!  Mine was $500.  It had a ton of bead work, a long train, and was really thick material.  Anyway... we decided to go look some other places, but Fantasy Bridal will only take you if you have an appointment and everywhere else was closed.  So, Brichette made an appointment for Fantasy Bridal.  Update: This is where she ended up finding her dress that she loves, and it was under $1,000.  It actually looked similar to the one she liked at David's Bridal, but I think it's much more elegant and beautiful. Here is one of the dresses from David’s ...
