This Is Us

We found a recipe for potato soup on the Internet. It had stuff that we didn’t want in it (like celery and onions) and stuff that was missing. Also, they only used chicken broth and to us didn’t seem very creamy, like a potato soup should be. So I created this one! Bacon Potato Soup: Ingredients- 6-7 Medium Potatoes 2 10.5 oz cans Cream of Chicken Soup 2 “cans” of Milk (*I’ll explain below) 1 14.5 oz can Chicken Broth 2 tsp Onion Powder (heaping) 1/4 tsp Pepper 1 package Bacon 2 bricks Cream Cheese Directions- Put the two cans of soup and the chicken broth into the crockpot. *Use the empty soup cans and fill with milk (both or just do one can twice. I use both to help get all the stuck soup out of the can). Add the onion powder and pepper. Mix well. At this point I turn on the crockpot on low. Peel and cut up the potatoes into small chunks. Carefully add them to the soup mixture in the crockpot (it will splash). Cover. Cook the bacon until it’s crispy. Break into small pie...

  One of my favorite things to eat for breakfast are mini or regular bagels with bacon, egg, and cheese. They are so good. Especially when we have our fresh eggs that our sweet chickens have laid. I scramble them, because that is the only way I like eggs (well hard boiled too). We buy the already cooked bacon, because I’m lazy, and I just warm it up in the air fryer until it’s crispy. It only takes a few minutes. Then I don’t have to cook a whole pack. I toast the bagel or bagels (two if they are mini) in the toast. Then I put the eggs on, cheese, bacon, and then eat. Delicious! I updated this to include the sourdough bagels I made in 2023. These are store bought mini bagels.

  For New Year's Eve we stayed home and had our own little party. We made some yummy food and then played games until midnight.  One of the games we played is a game called Exploding Kittens. It's a really fun game. Here is our food, and the fun we had playing games.

We found this native bee 🐝 house at costco and have already had a blue orchard mason bee visit and start getting it ready for her eggs.  . Blue Orchard Mason Bees are pretty amazing! 🐝 They are from the genus Osmia 🐝 They are solitary bees, so each female is a queen and lays eggs on their own. However they do like to be by each other and will lay eggs close together. 🐝 They are not aggressive. 🐝 They are non-stinging. The males don’t have a stinger and the females use their stinger to guide them to lay eggs. They are also so busy collecting pollen/nectar and laying eggs that they will only sting if they are about to die. 🐝 They pollinate 80% better than honey bees. Here is more what I have learned: In the spring after they have mated and get some food the females will look for a place to lay their eggs. They cannot drill holes, so they find natural holes such as holes made from other insects or like in our bee house. She picks somewhere safe, protecte...

I’ve put my fear aside and bought some chicks. Daphnie is an Ameraucana, Frenchie is an Olive Egger, and Dixie is a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. They are so cute and sweet. Nick made the brooder they are in. He is amazing!!! Daphnie Frenchie Dixie Them in the brooder Nick made.

Last year (2018) our urban farm really started to grow.  We got more planter boxes, planted a lot more fruits and vegetables, and had a lot more flowers too.  We put in a fire pit, which I absolutely love! We participated in the #superduperseedswap in October and January and got a lot more seeds.  Lots of tomatoes, flowers, watermelons, peppers, beans, onions, garlic (I will be growing for my parents since Nick is allergic to garlic), carrots, peas, and so many more!  We also hope to get some chickens this year.  Here are some photos from last year...
