Just Have Faith

Last year we were told that the elementary school that the kids go to might end up being shut down, because they didn’t have enough students attending. They would have to go to a different elementary.

One reason, there are 5 charter schools within 5 miles of our house.

Anyway... I emailed the school board and told them why they should keep our school open. There are several reasons we wanted our school to stay open. One is that within the boundaries of the school they would keep open and our children would have to attend is there are 21 child sex offenders. YES! Twenty-one! Also, the school has a security system. They said that it was a good thing because then the kids would be safe. Um... that doesn’t make me feel safe! We don’t feel comfortable sending our kids to a school with that many sex offenders in the area and them having to have a security system.

The school board ignored my email and everyone else’s. They decided to close our elementary because the other school had a few more square feet and a couple more parking spots. They don’t really care about our children being safe and only care about the size of the school.

We felt lost. We knew for sure that Heavenly Father told us to buy this house and we knew we are where we are supposed to be, but at the same time we thought... why would this be the place for us if our elementary school is closing?

We were hit with a hard decision. Our children were NOT going to that other school, so what do we do? So we had to pray about it. We had to decide if we were going to move, find another public school for them to go to, or try and get them into a charter school... We prayed a lot and we also went to the Temple and received the feeling that we needed to stay where we were.

Now... what school should we send them to? I really didn’t want to drive to far to take them to school. We got a post card in the mail about open enrollment for a charter school, the closest to our house. It was a lottery, but you had to sign up to be put in the lottery. Sign-ups started the next morning at 10. So we felt we should try and get them in this school. We signed them up the next day.

It was a couple weeks before they did the lottery. Shortly after we got an email from them stating that Zain and Tyler had been pulled. Nothing about Lydia. So I called the school and they said, they couldn’t take Lydia because her grade was full. They would put her on a VIP list, which she was at the top of, and if a spot came available she would get it. At first I panicked, but then I thought about it. If this is where Heavenly Father told us to send our kids, then Lydia will get in. After a few weeks we got an email stating that a spot had opened up and Lydia could go to school there.

We had faith that this is where we were supposed to be and that this is the school they were to go to and everything worked out the way it’s supposed to be.

We are so grateful for prayer and Temples. We are grateful for personal revelation and the power of faith.
