Overcome The World and Find Rest

A few weeks ago in Relief Society we discussed the talk by President Russell M. Nelson called Overcome The World and Find Rest. It was so good and definitely something I needed to hear, read, and ponder.

At the start he says:

“But, my dear brothers and sisters, so many wonderful things are ahead. In coming days, we will see the greatest manifestations of the Savior’s power that the world has ever seen. Between now and the time He returns “with power and great glory,” He will bestow countless privileges, blessings, and miracles upon the faithful.”

That brings some peace to me. It’s also nice knowing “how it all ends”.

It’s so hard to find peace and rest these days. It feels like the whole world is against you. That no matter what you say or do, the world tells you that you’re stupid for believing the things you do, or you don’t care about other people, or you need to get with the times.

It’s hard to feel safe with all the hate and violence in the world.

After reading this talk, there are so many ways to find peace and rest!

President Nelson talks about an experience that one of the open house committee members witnessed during the open house of the Washington D.C. Temple. The committee member was escorting reports through the Temple. Somehow a young family ended up in their group. One of the reports asked about the “journey” of the temple patrons as they move through the Temple. He wanted to know if it symbolizes the journey and trials they go through in this life. A young boy in the family heard them discussing this question. Later when the whole group entered into an endowment room, the boy pointed to the alter and said “Oh, that’s nice. Here is a place for people to rest on their Temple journey.”

How profound is that? I’m pretty sure that boy didn’t fully understand what he was saying, but how wonderful!

I know that when I’m in the Temple all the worldly distractions, fears, and anxiety go away and all I feel is peace, contentment, and love! Being in the Temple feels like home! I love it in there!

President Nelson then talks about how he grieves to see members leave the Church because they feel membership is too hard. Then he says:

“The reward for keeping covenants with God is heavenly power—power that strengthens us to withstand our trials, temptations, and heartaches better. This power eases our way. Those who live the higher laws of Jesus Christ have access to His higher power. Thus, covenant keepers are entitled to a special kind of rest that comes to them through their covenantal relationship with God.”

I do my best to follow Jesus Christ’s laws and keep the covenants that I made. I know that when I do everything I am supposed to I do find rest. I’m not as overwhelmed by all the worldly things! I know that the commandments, word of wisdom, and laws are there to protect and help me. They keep my mind, body, and spirit healthy. I love knowing that the covenants that Nick and I made in the Temple will help us stay together for all eternity, as long as we do our part! Nick is my bestest friend and I don’t ever want to be without him, in this life or for eternity! So I’m going to do everything I can to ensure we are together forever!

I know sometimes we get weighed down by the world and receiving rest doesn’t always feel as easy as praying and reading the scriptures or following the laws of Jesus Christ, but it really is that simple. No matter what we are going through Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are ALWAYS willing to give us help. All we have to do is ask, and we will receive the help we need, so we can rest!

There is so much more to President Nelson’s talk. Please, take a few minutes and either listen to it or read it! It will lift your spirits and give you the comfort you are seeking!

I truly love everyone! Don’t ever forget that!!
