Hawaii - Day 3 - Oahu/Kauai

Day 3 -

We woke up around 7:00, got checked out and headed to the airport to fly over to Kauai. The roads there are really neat. The freeway has a highway underneath it. Here is a picture:

We took the highway underneath because it wasn't as busy... we were in the middle of the morning rush-hour. Their rush hour isn't that bad, but because they only have 2-3 lanes on the Freeway it was pretty packed. We drove around a little bit trying to find a gas station, and finally got the GPS out and found the closest one. We turned the rental car in and they took us over to the airport in their shuttle. The driver asked us where we were from and when we said Utah the first thing she asked was if we were Mormon. We said yes, and she said that her cousins are Jack Mormons. Which she then asked "You know what that is right?". We nodded, and said yes. Then she talked more about her cousins and their missions, and that they live in Utah.

We got to the airport and went through security, which didn't take us long at all... Maybe 5 minutes. They are so calm and laid back, it's really nice. We then found Burger King and got breakfast. Then we called the kids and told them we were in the airport waiting to fly to another island. They wanted us to be flying home and were sad that we weren't. After eating and talking we still had some time to kill so we walked around and looked at the gift shops. We bought Brichette and Xander a painted metal turtle magnet, and Nick got some cards. Then we went by the gate and waited to board. We boarded the plane and took a 20 min. flight over to Kauai.

There are chickens, and roosters everywhere. They are just walking around free. It's crazy. They also have these really cool white birds that bobbed their heads when they walked. Like "Yeah, I'm cool". They are so great to watch.

We got our rental car, and found our Hotel (thanks to the GPS. I LOVE THOSE!!!). It's so cool to have everything open. They didn't' have any front doors, or windows. Just all open. I was worried that they might have gotten our dates mixed up too, but they didn't. It was nice to not have to deal with that again. Our room was okay, but it was right next to the coy pond, so when we turned the air on, we could smell it. Luckily it wasn't to bad of a smell, so we didn't notice it after a few minutes. Also it was right by the main hall with the Ice Machine, so it was noisy at times. We got settled in, put on our swim suits and decided to drive North on the 2 lane highway (the only major road in Kauai) and see what was up there.

We found a Light House/Bird refuge that we stopped at. We had to pay to go "in", which we didn't mind because it helped the birds. They had Red Footed Bobby Birds, and some Hawaiian Geese (Hawaii's stat bird).

Then we drove around some more, went through a tree tunnel (which was really cool) and found a Bubba's so we stopped to have lunch. We thought it was good, but not as good as everyone there had said it was. There was a little mall across the street that we went and looked around at. Not very many shops so it didn't take long.

Then we drove back to the hotel and played on the beach. I buried Nick in the sand and we counted how many waves it took to uncover him. It takes 6 small waves to almost get him out, or 1 really big wave. Then he buried me. Also when we were playing in the waves, we saw an octopus. It was unconscious, but it still freaked me out. We only saw it once, which I would have liked to have seen it again to get a better look at it.

Then we went to bed so we could get ready for our Zip line tour.
