Hawaii - Day 4 - Kauai

Day 4 -

We knew we wanted to do the Zip Line, so Nick got some brochures from the front desk the night before and we looked through them and figured out which one we wanted to do. So this morning we went back to the Activities desk and asked if they had any openings. They didn't have any for Thursday, Friday or Saturday, but they had a cancellation that day. We said okay, and we had 20 minutes to get over there. Luckily we had already put our swimsuits on, we just had to grab a couple of things and we were off. Except I had to borrow shoes from the Zip Line place, because silly me, only brought flip flops.

So we hurried over there, got registered and our gear then we were off. We got to ride in this cool truck. It had 6 wheels, but there weren't any windows, or seat belts. It was really fun. BJ drove us, Pono and Alohe were our guides. It was so much fun, as you can tell by our photos. On the way there Alohe sat back with us and told us about the zip line, and some stuff about Hawaii. The land we were on is owned by the ex-CEO of AOL (I can't remember his name). She said that he a lot of land on Kauai, and owns 10% of Maui. He leases the land to the residents for $15.00 an acre. It is so cool that he does that.

We drove for about 10 minutes and then reached the zip lines. We got off the truck and left everything but our cameras. BJ took everything down to where we would end. We already had our harnesses on, but they just needed to be adjusted. We got our helmets on and Pono showed us how everything worked. They have a "bunny" zip line and after that one, if you don't want to do it you don't have to, but you have to do the "bunny" before you decide you aren't going to.

They had us go in one order so that when Alohe would send us, Pono would know who was coming. They must have started out with the heavier weight, because Nick went second, and Nick was the second biggest guy there. I went fourth (the other guys wife went after Nick). Then she put everyone else in an order and they came after us.

I started to get a little scared, but after I did the "bunny" one is was so much fun that I forgot to be scared. We went on 7 zip lines. They got closer to the ground, but they also got longer. On one of the middle ones, Pono said that I came in the fastest, until another lady in our group came in, then I was the second fastest. We had to ball up (tuck our legs into our chest) to give us enough speed to get across... I guess I balled up a little to much. LOL!

Once we did the last one and got all our gear off, they had lunch ready for us. Sandwiches, chips, and water. It was YUMMY! After we ate we went and played in the river. There is a mountain that is the center of Kauai and it is constantly raining on it so it always has at least 3 waterfalls coming down. Alohe said that one day they counted 37 waterfalls. That would have been cool to see. So the water we were playing in was from the waterfalls. It was a little chilly, but once you got used to it, it wasn't to bad. We were playing around and there was a frog by the edge of the water. BJ pushed it in and the one girl (she just turned 18) screamed and got out of the water. I gasped and asked what it was, but when I found out it was a frog I wasn't worried. Nick got some pictures with our waterproof camera, which we don't have developed yet, but when we do I will post those pictures as well.

We got done playing and they drove us back to the office. On the way back they showed us some of the spots that they filmed Tropic Thunder.

We haven't seen it, but thought it was cool that we got to see where it was filmed.

We bought some post cards from the office and sent 2 home to the kids so they could see what we did.

After, we drove around and found some waterfalls, chickens crossing the road (LOL), and a really big river. We also found a canyon that went really far back, but we couldn't go to far because it started to get really bad (bumpy, holes, muddy) and we had a Dodge Caliber. We went over bridges that had the river flowing over it, past really big trees, and beautiful flowers. We also saw dead frogs on the dirt road. It's pretty funny all the different things you see in a different state, especially one like Hawaii.

Once we came out of the canyon we drove down the south shore some more, and came across one of the best beaches. The water is pretty clear, the sand is really clean and soft, and there weren't to many people on it. We also saw another beautiful sunset. We also played Wave Chaser. It's where you chase the wave as far as you can back into the ocean, before it starts coming back to shore. We almost got caught a couple of times. It was really fun.

Then we went back to the room and decided what to do tomorrow.
